On October 29, 1999, Janet E. Stout Ph.D. was the recipient of the "Water Technologist of the Year" Award presented by the Association of Water Technologies for "outstanding contribution to the field of water treatment in improving the understanding of Legionella in industrial water systems."

Engineering student Yang Gao at her award winning poster presentation at the 2000 American Water Works Association meeting in Denver, CO. The title of the presentation was "Monochloramine and Chlorine Dioxide as Alternative Disinfection Methods for Legionella Control: Results of Pilot-studies in a Model Plumbing System". Yang received a third place award for best poster presentation.[Abstract]
